The Blue Collar Future: A Comprehensive Guide to Success in the Trades

Welcome to the Blue Collar Future podcast, where we explore all things related to the trades, the future of the industry, and provide resources for success. I’m your host, Jaden Robinson. In today’s episode, we have a special guest, Taniela Fiefia, a successful concrete contractor and business coach. Taniela shares his journey of failures and ultimate success in the construction industry, as well as his copy and paste system for generating leads. Let’s dive into the conversation.

The Importance of Marketing in the Trades

Taniela emphasizes the importance of marketing in the construction business, a lesson he learned through his own experiences. He highlights the common mistake of relying solely on word-of-mouth referrals from other contractors, instead of actively seeking out leads. He shares his own strategy of using social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to generate leads for his business:

“It’s crazy how many people overlook the importance of marketing in the business. I wish I had realized it sooner. I primarily use Facebook and Instagram to get leads. Everyone is on social media these days, so it’s the perfect platform to reach potential clients.”

Taniela also mentions the power of TikTok as a testing ground for his content. He posts multiple videos a day on TikTok and then repurposes the ones that gain traction on other platforms like Facebook and Instagram:

“I use TikTok as my main testing platform. I post multiple videos there and see which ones take off. Then I copy and paste those videos onto other platforms. TikTok has a shorter attention span, so if a video goes viral there, it’s likely to do well on other platforms too.”

The Power of Controversy and Personal Branding

Taniela shares his strategy for creating attention-grabbing content on social media. He believes in being polarizing and not afraid to attract haters, as they inadvertently help boost his reach:

“I want people to comment and hate on my videos because even though they hate it, they’re still boosting me to more people. It’s all about views, likes, and comments. Haters play a role in spreading my content.”

He also emphasizes the importance of personal branding and being known rather than just liked:

“I don’t want to be liked, I want to be known. I want to post things that make people either love me or hate me, but at least they know I exist. That’s how you go viral and stand out from the crowd.”

The Shift to Subcontracting and the Future of the Trades

Taniela discusses his transition from having in-house employees to subcontracting work. He finds the subcontracting model more efficient and cost-effective:

“I prefer the subcontracting model because it reduces overhead costs. I don’t need to invest in trucks, trailers, and equipment. I can focus on selling the job and then pay someone else to do it.”

He also highlights the growing demand for skilled tradespeople and the abundance of work available in the construction industry:

“There’s a misconception that the trades are dying, but that’s far from the truth. Construction is booming, and there’s a shortage of contractors to keep up with the demand. It’s a great time to be in the trades.”

Overcoming Failures and Betting on Yourself

Taniela shares his personal journey of failures and how they ultimately led him to success. He emphasizes the importance of not being afraid to fail and taking risks:

“I had multiple failed businesses before finding success in the construction industry. I used to have a fear of failure and a stigma against seeking mentors. But once I embraced failure and invested in mentors, everything changed.”

He also discusses the power of having your back against the wall and betting on yourself:

“I’ve never thought of quitting since I quit my job. I want to be put in positions where most people would fold. That’s where I thrive and find the motivation to succeed.”

The Holistic Approach to Success

Taniela believes in a holistic approach to success, focusing not just on business but also on personal development, relationships, and health:

“I’m a firm believer in being a ten out of ten in all aspects of life. It’s not just about making money; it’s about being the best version of yourself. Building a successful business is just one piece of the puzzle.”

He mentions his admiration for mentors like Wes Watson, who emphasize personal growth, dropping vices, and building better relationships:

“I want to combine business coaching with personal training and relationship-building. It’s about being a role model in all areas of life and giving back to the world.”

Conclusion: The Future of the Blue Collar Industry

The blue collar industry is thriving, with a growing demand for skilled tradespeople. Marketing and personal branding are essential tools for success in the trades, and social media platforms provide a powerful avenue for generating leads. Embracing failure, betting on oneself, and adopting a holistic approach to success are key principles for thriving in the industry. As the trades continue to evolve, it’s crucial for individuals to adapt, learn, and invest in their personal and professional growth.

The future of the blue collar industry is bright, and those who embrace change, leverage technology, and prioritize personal development will be at the forefront of success. It’s time to break free from the stigma surrounding blue collar work and recognize the immense opportunities and rewards it offers. The blue collar future is here, and it’s time to seize it.
